The Medusa Project: Hunted by Sophie Mckenzie

Dylan, the daughter of the scientist who created the Medusa gene for psychic powers, has never felt she really fits into the crime-fighting Medusa Project. But then she makes a discovery about her father's death which changes everything. As she and the other Medusa teens search for the truth, Dylan meets Harry - a boy who seems to know more about Dylan's past than she does. But can Dylan trust him? While Dylan searches for the mysterious legacy that her father has left her from beyond the grave, her dad's killer closes in. But just how far is the murderer prepared to go to keep Dylan from finding out the truth?

This is the fourth one to Sophie Mckenzie's teen crime fighting force - The Medusa Project. Each one is narrated by a different character, and this one is told by Dylan the daughter of the man who created the gene. I wasn't sure about this one first, because I didn't really like Dylan's character much is the previous books. However, she became my favourite out of the four by the time I had finished reading it.
She has never really felt liek she belonged with the other team, well - she has never really felt belonged anywhere. Both her parents have died and she doesn't get on well with the others. She hides her vulnerability by snapping at people and just being an unpleasant person to be around. I am glad that the gang have stuck by her and not abbanded her.

There was plenty of twists and turns, and action that can have you clingling to the book like glue. The ending was a big surprise and certainly makes people buy Double-Cross (the fifth and latest one in the series). Before I liked the series, but now I love the series! Sophie McKenzie has done it yet again.

I also think that The Medusa Project should be turned into a TV series. It has plenty of everything that can never make you bored. I have already read the next one too, Double-Cross, and I can tell you that the books keep on getting better and better! The review of that one should be out soon.

If you haven't read this series, you are missing out on all the action! Grab the first copy now and may your mind be blown away...

House Trap by Mike Mauthor

Rachel Evans is a sixteen year old overachiever who would take nothing less than to achieve her goal of getting into Dartmouth College. But Rachel’s life would never be the same once she stepped into the house of Alicia Hausefalle, the most popular girl in Wedds High School. Rachel was there to tutor her. She never expected to meet two strangers who were ready to end her life.

First of all, thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this to review. I really enjoyed it!
I was hooked by the first line, and I immediately felt I was in the story. I think I read it in one sitting, this book is really gripping! The first few pages are the prologue and it has a young boy calling the police after finding strangers in his house hurt her mother. Just as the excruciating atmosphere rises, three words are next: Thirty Years Later.

Sixteen year-old Rachel Evans is obsessed with school work, and wants nothing more than to go to Dartmouth College. To get extra credit, she decides to tutor a girl in her class. BIG MISTAKE! Alicia's father invented the House Trap, an invention that traps people breaking into your house. Once the alarm recognises a trespasser it locks all the doors and seals all the windows. It then traps the person by having a trap door at the floor and them sliding down to a place where they are locked in. Then the owners then have time to call the police - genius! Maybe not - what do you do when the system acts too late and the killers are locked in the house inside with you?

That night, two people enter her house - dangerous people, not afraid to kill. The action in this book is full of suspense, I couldn't stop reading. I just HAD to know what happened in the end.

All the characters are believable, and Mike really made them come alive. I liked Rachel's persistent mind, and the way she doesn't give up. This is a good character in a thriller - Rachel fights back. She is an academic girl who has her eye on the prize. I didn't like her at first - when she 'had a strop' about not winning the science fair. But then I began to quite like her, and sympathize for her.
Since the book is in third person, you don't know what is going to happen in the end. I wasn't predicting a happy ending, all the twists and turns are really good too.

The whole aspect of this story is so unique. This made it exciting to read, and the author made the fast-paced storyline the main reason I loved it.

My only complaint is that were a few spelling/grammar/punctuation errors. (that probably makes me a hypocrite to say this, because my writing is full of errors usually!!) I don't tend to focus on the faults of a book, but this popped up quite a bit. It didn't stop me from enjoying the story though, and it shouldn't for you either!

I recommend this to anyone who likes action and maybe horror. I am not usually interested in horror-related books but this one is a really good novella. You should buy it, because it is only 89p/$00.99! Bargain for a perfect little thriller...

In My Mailbox #8

IMM is hosted by The Story Siren.

For Review-

Jack Christie: Day Of Assassins by Johnny O' Brien
Technically, only the last one in the series is meant to be for a review. Day of Vengeance has a book tour coming soon, and Bookhi has been asked to host a spot! The first two in the series are published already, and the third one will be coming out on 1st August 2011. Templar publishing offered to give me all three books, so I accepted! Anyway, they all look really good.
They are about Jack Christie, the young hero, who is thrown back in time at certain events which may change timeline history. In the first one, it takes place just after WWI where the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand is held.

Jack Christie: Day Of Deliverance by Johnny O' Brien

The second one in the series is Jack trying to prevent the the assassination of Elizabeth I. This sounds like a really good one, full of adventure and action.

Jack Christie: Day Of Vengeance by Johnny O' Brien

The third book (the book itself on the blog tour) involves Jack going back to WWII and the Battle Of Britain is taking place. It sounds like it is full of action, chases, and a very gripping read.

Thank you, Templar!

House Trap by Mike Mauthor
This is a ebook given to me to review by the author. It is a thriller about a girl called Rachel who desperately wants to get into Dartmouth College. She goes over to a popular girl's house tutor her, but instead she meets two strangers ready to end her life. This sounds like a spooky and scary read. It reminds me a bit of Soul Shadows from Fiction Express somehow....

I have a busy week to get cracking on all those books! What did you get this week?

Commenting Problem Continued :(

The commenting problem I have it still going on. I can't reply on my own blog, or post any on most blogs. It is really frustrating, because I can see all these awesome posts that other blogs have posted and I can't share my thoughts (e.g: Bookster Reviews). It also depends on how you comment, as it is in a different way for different blogs. I can comment fine on some blogs, (e.g: Booktastic Reviews) but not a lot. I am very sorry for this, so bear in mind that I am reading your blog but I can't comment.
And please still comment on my posts, I still read every one!

Everyone cross their fingers!!!!

Gimme A Call by Sarah Mlynowski

Publisher: Orchard
Publication date: 3rd June 2010
Pages: 288
Edition: Paperback
Received: Bought

“See, I was at the mall and I dropped my phone into the fountain. And I had been thinking about all the things I would tell myself if I could call myself when I was fourteen. And now I’m talking to you.”
“What,” I say slowly, “are you talking about?” I would hang up, should hang up, but she sounds so familiar.
“Don’t you see?” she says, bursting with excitement. “I’m pretty sure I’m you. In the future.”
Devi is a mess. Her boyfriend just dumped her, and the only college that accepted her is known to everyone as ‘Stupid State’. But suddenly, she can talk to herself three-and-a-half years earlier – which means she can totally change her future for the better! Either that, or create hilarious and disastrous consequences...

This book is a fun, humorous, and interesting read. It had me gripped from the start, and I suddenly wanted to know more about Devi.
I have never read anything by this author before, and this gave me a good impression on her other books. The novel is about Devi, a struggling teenager who suffers the usual teenage problems. She has her heart broken, and she would do anything to go back in time and change the past. Ironically, she drops her phone in a fountain and it only calls one person: her past self. I liked this twist, because it wasn't going in a time machine, or re-living the same day over and over, or just being thrown back in time somehow.

Of course, it wasn't as simple to change her past. Her younger self thought it was a mad person on the other side insisting they were the same person! Their conversations were very funny as you might have guessed. I enjoyed the whole aspect of the plot, and how the author developed even more ideas in each chapter.

Near the end, things are getting even more disastrous as they may not be able to communicate again. I honestly didn't know what was going to happen, only Sarah Mlynowski could have come up with them.

This book is worth reading, especially for teenage girls or possibly adults or anyone who is just in the mood for a fun read. Quirky, eccentric and unique - this book has it all.

Fiction Express: Rémy Brunel and the Ocean of Light: Chapter 1

A new e-book has been released on Fiction Express. I enjoyed the last four books and the journey it took to reach the final eleventh chapter. They are over now, and a new book has taken it's place - Rémy Brunel and the Ocean of Light by Sharon Gosling.

If you are not aware of the website, it is a e-fiction site where each chapter is released every Friday. When you have read that chapter, you can vote to what happens next! The first chapter is for free, and the next ten chapters are from 59p. I recommend the site 100% and I suggest you check out the brilliant books they have on offer.

Anyway, here is my review of chapter one:

Blurb from FE:
No-one performs on the circus trapeze like sixteen-year-old Rémy Brunel. But when the circus closes for the night, Rémy leads another life, as a cat burglar and jewel thief. Forced by the evil circus owner Gustave to attempt the theft of one of the world's most valuable diamonds, Rémy thinks it will be just another heist, but when she meets determined young detective Thaddeus Rec, her life changes forever. Will Thaddeus manage to rescue the jewel from Rémy’s nimble fingers? Or is it really Rémy that he needs to save?

When I first heard about this book, I immediately was intrigued. It sounds mysterious, exciting and full of anticipation. The cover is interesting too, it gives more of a feel to it.   I was hooked in only the first couple of sentences and I wanted to know more about Rémy and her life. She is a young trapeze artist who also has a separate life of crime. Gustave wants her to steal a valuable jewel, The Ocean Of Light, from the Tower of London. She doesn't hesitate to try, and I can see why. Despite knowing little about his character, I think if she fails Remy will suffer concequences.  Another incident involves a man, Thaddeus, who is also involved with the Tower of London. I liked how they link together and the ending suggests that there will be more twists and turns to come....

The next chapter and final voting closes on the 25th of July, so you have plenty of time if you haven't had chance yet! I propose that you do check this out, it is really worth reading!

Fiction Express Chapter 11

Fiction Express is an e-fiction site where they release each chapter every Friday and you can vote what happens next. For more information, look on my previous posts.

Nooo - the last chapters! *sob sob* Here is what I thought of them:

Diary Of A Mall Girl by Luisa Plaja

Aww, this book couldn't be any better! I wouldn't change a thing, everything touched my heart. In the final chapter we hope everything gets resolved. Will Molly get back with Jasper? What will happen with the Liam-Tasha-Jamie love triangle? Who really is Art Boy? (the answer to this question made me LOL!) And are Wendy and Ameera officially not her friends anymore? This is one of my favourite books because the ending made me smile. It is a fun, creative and quirky novel every teenage girl is bound to enjoy!

The Last Symbol by Rebecca Morton

From last week's voting, I was very keen to find out the result. Miko is in a difficult position, and his decision eventually takes away the Prophate's power. Will his destiny be fulfilled? I enjoyed the fast pace of the telling of the story, and the quick and direct dialogue. It had a perfect ending, and I do not regret reading this chapter. Sequel request..?!

Soul Shadows - Alex Woolf

This chapter is emotional and full of suspense. The ticking bomb is seconds away from exploding and they hurriedly try to find out as many solutions as possible. I hung onto every word, dying to know the ending. Despite it being a long chapter, it wasn't once boring. The ending definitely performed to the standards of the previous events in the book, and that cliffhanger at the end is one that will make your spine tingle!

The Soterion Mission - Stewart Ross

As the finale of the book started to form, I began to wonder if this book really was going to have a resolved and happy ending. The ending is so emotional and affective too - the whole chapter was a roller coaster with nail-biting events. Through this book I have laughed, cried and fuming when my internet wouldn't work! I have looked at Stewart's other work and I am very interested to read another good book by him.

Thank you so much everyone at Fiction Express, I will definitely be continuing with the site. I have loved every minute of the anticipation that has got me through the week. I love the whole voting system and discovering new authors.

Please come back soon for a review of the next online book, Rémy Brunel and the Ocean of Light by Sharon Gosling. The voting for that one doesn't close for another week so read the first chapter for free now!

In My Mailbox #7

IMM is hosted by Kristi from The Story Siren.

For Review-

Between The Land And The Sea by Derrolyn Anderson
Something extraordinary is lurking in the deep ocean waters off the coast of Aptos, California. In just a few weeks after moving to the small beach town, sixteen year old Marina has nearly drowned twice, enchanted the hottest guy in high school, and discovered a supernatural creature. If she can only manage to survive her increasingly dangerous encounters with unpredictable mermaids, she might just be able to unlock the mystery of her past to learn how to appease the mysterious forces that seem to want something from her...and maybe even find true love along the way.

I received two e-books by a lovely author, Derrolyn Anderson. She writes an e-book series, 'Marina's Tales. I have never heard of these before but they sound awesome! The author describes them as a sweet romance novel with a touch of supernatural.

The Moon And The Tide by Derrolyn Anderson
Just when things seem to be all figured out, Marina discovers that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than she ever imagined. When a terrible accident exposes her secret, she discovers that her whole life has been one big lie, and has to cope with more than one kind of betrayal. A dangerous enemy arrives on the scene, putting her bravery to the test and forcing her to use all of her new-found talents to protect her family. Will good win out over evil? Can love triumph over jealousy?

This is the sequel to the one above, which sounds equally good!

Won-

Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

And that sometimes, people can surprise you, so it's ok to let the closest ones in.

Thanks Rachel from Booktastic Reviews! She hosted a giveaway and I was one of the three lucky winners. I have never read anything by this author before, but from what I have heard her other books are good. The cover is really nice too...

Which Cover? #6

Is it me or is this year going fast?! Which Cover is a monthly post where I compare different covers and you can comment below which one you prefer. For more information, you can click on the tab above.
For July, I have chosen between the Harry Potter ones. I l-o-v-e these series, and I thought this would fit for this month because the final movie in coming out shortly....! *jumps up and down with excitement*

I actually like them all, but if I had to choose last one. It is simple, effective and leave a mysterious feel to it. The series is meant to be for children, but personally, I think that set of covers mainly aims at adults. I have read the whole series and I think the last one is particularly for young adults, though a lot of vivid children readers will enjoy it too.

The first cover is neither really good or really bad, to be honest. It gives us more information on what the series is about, which is sometimes good about the cover.

The second one is eye-catching, and that is the one I own. I bought it, so I obviously thought it looked interesting! It is bright and lively, but is that good or bad?

The third cover makes it look interesting, but I don't think it suits the plot. It looks more like a historical novel or one about trains/railways instead of magic, evil and death...

Moving onto the fourth one, I don't think I would pick that up in a bookstore. I wouldn't be sure it would suit my taste, if I had never heard of HP before. However, it is the last book, and if people have enjoyed the previous books than they would buy it anyway.

The fifth one is similar to the second one, as it is part of the same set. I like how books in series match!
And the sixth one I have already talked about above: my favourite one.

Which one do you prefer?

Fiction Express Chapter 10

If you are not familiar with Fiction Express, please look on my previous posts about the amazing website. These are my reviews for chapter ten of the four books:

Diary Of A Mall Girl - Luisa Plaja

Things are getting even more interesting to Molly. She is not sure what she wants; her long-life crush wants to kiss her, the boy she can't stop thinking about doesn't forgive her and she is unsure who to trust. She is suffering friendship problems again, and I am happy what Molly decided to do in the end. Everything has almost come together, in ways I had no idea would happen when I first began this story! This is probably my favourite chapter so far (I know I keep saying that, but it just keeps getting better and better!). I am looking forward to chapter eleven but I am also not! I really want to know what happens, but I also don't want this to end....

The Last Symbol - Rebecca Morton

Miko meets the Prophate in this chapter, which has reader curious what will happen and scared for Miko. The Prophate is malicious and terrifying and this chapter really elaborates this. I was very anxious what would happen to Miko through this chapter, because it was nearly the end of the book - could the risky consequences adapt? Meanwhile, Jameese and Drina are also featured separately, then they meet and that means more chances are taken...

Soul Shadows - Alex Woolf

It opens with a dramatic scene filled with suspense. There is a lot of tension and energy poured into this chapter; I hung onto every word. When we discovered the letter that Barbara wrote, that was very exciting. It is described so vivid, I felt like I was their with Estelle, embracing the cruel words and finding out their fate. They only had seconds to live-and yep, you've guessed it, the chapter ends! I am sure the final chapter will be worth waiting for.

The Soterion Mission - Stewart Ross

Wow - this chapter is too breathtaking for words. Cyrus and Roxanne went to the Soterion and Taja and Nash went in their place to Alba. Stewart's writing is the kind where you just have to read. This chapter is particularly gripping! The ending is spectacular. I don't know if I can wait until Friday for the answer! I couldn't vote, as I only had time to read it after 10am on Monday. I had a look on the vote question and I realized I wouldn't have been able to decide anyway! I honestly have no idea what will happen in the last chapter but hopefully everything will be concluded....I am all for happy endings!!

Well, these for books are nearly over *sob*... How did you vote? Are you as befuddled as I am?

GUEST POST: Rachel from Booktastic Reviews

First of all, I would just like to shout out a big thank you to Zoe for letting me guest post on her blog! This blog is one of my favourites so it is a privilege to be posting on it. Today I am going to be talking through what a book has to have to be in my favourites list.
First of all, a book has to have a little adventure. That is a must. It would be good if it had a little action, but that is not as necessary. I would also like it with a splash of fantasy!

Some books that are my favourites because of all that are...
Virals by Kathy Reichs
The Lost Island of Tamarind by Nadia Aguiar
Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling

Thanks Rachel! If you haven't already been to her blog I suggest do so now, otherwise - go to a doctor! I also did a guest post on her blog, click here to see it!

Fiction Express Chapter 8 & 9

These are the reviews on Chapter 8 and 9 on the four e-fiction books on the website, Fiction Express. Apologies for having two chapters on the same post, I have just been very busy for the past week. Anyway, for those not familiar with FE, it is basically a website where you can read e-books. A new chapter is added every Friday and you can vote to see where the story goes next! The first chapter is free, and the ones after that are 59p. For an exclusive 5 free credits, use this discount code: AB45YG.
Diary Of a Mall Girl - Luisa Plaja (8)

Wow, wow, wow! I think this is the best chapter so far in this book. Liam's party meant disaster, especially if it meant Jewel and Jasper coming along too. It started with Wendy finding out about Jasper, and locked them up in the attic as part of 'couple counselling' thing she read in a magazine. Unaware of his claustrophobia, they were trapped. Jasper's condition isn't too bad when Molly is there, and their relationship is the highlight of the chapter! The voting was really tricky, and I can tell chapter 9 will be good.

(9)

I feel like I am in Molly's shoes in Chapter 9. It is so vivid, and I didn't tear my eyes away from the screen from the first sentence to last excruciating one! The ending of the last chapter was to whether to do a work experience at Jasper's Mum's school. She took the offer, and we find some really surprising secrets. In one of the previous chapters, we discover that Jewel and Jasper's dad is a famous rock star.
It was all perfect, and then a few twists were thrown in and now questions about where the plot will go next are swimming around my head....!

The Last Symbol - Rebecca Morton (8)

In this chapter, Drina takes part in a dangerous plan to save Miko. Go sibling love!! I enjoyed reading this chapter, a lot happened that has you reading until the end. I feel sorry for Miko, he has difficult choices that will lead to more exciting twists and turns to come...

(9)

Chapter 9 was even better than Chapter 8, due to the vote casted. Drina decided to not tell the story Tyron wanted, and told the truth. I really liked how the story was told, this had a big impact on the reader. It had me sitting on this edge of my seat, getting closer to my computer screen like I was pulled into the storyline. I am waiting anxiously what will happen next!

Soul Shadows - Alex Woolf (8)

As the weeks go on, the characters and us are not sure who to trust. The soul shadows intrigues the reader by their form, and this is one if the strong points of this book that really shines. In this chapter all sorts happen! The Blackshirts try to defeat them, Estelle gets annoyed at Robert, and the voting choices at the end were hard to pick.

(9)

This chapter was really good! Shadow-Carl explained the consequences of interacting with a new shadow, and this had a good start to the chapter. There was a lot of suspense while reading this, which is one of the key points a good story. Alex has described the events well, and you could get inside the characters heads allowing them to feel their emotions at what is happening in the scene.

The Soterion Mission - Stewart Ross (8)

A lot happened in this, and I can see how the plot is all coming together. This chapter had the characters attempting to cross over the bridge. It was full of action and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this!

(9)

The first sentence immeditely captures the reader's attention. We meet more characters and Timur discovers an Alban secret. It could have had more dialogue, but apart from that this is a very good plotted out story! It made me feel like I was there, and this is the type of book that can involve everyone. I especially like the Roxanne-Cyrus moments, but that's not new! ;-) I can't wait to find out what happens in the next two chapters, it seems to be building up towards the end nicly. This is good, because a lot of books rush the ending. Stewart, you should be proud!

What do you think? Do you agree with my reviews? Enjoy!
